Health Freedom Action Alert

Your freedom to choose to drink raw milk is under attack.  Please act now.

Dear Friends,
Raw milk has grown in popularity in New Zealand recent years as more people (particularly those in cities) have become aware that raw milk (from healthy cows living on organic farms) provides health benefits that pasteurised milk does not.  Unfortunately, raw milk is not available for sale in supermarkets or health food stores and as a result, people in cities have been forming raw milk clubs and buying milk from farmers and sharing it with friends and family.  Such raw milk clubs make raw milk accessible to city dwellers who would not otherwise have access to raw milk because they live too far from a farm that supplies it.
Unfortunately MAF is proposing a new regulatory system for the supply of raw milk that would make raw milk clubs illegal.  MAF is also recommending restricting the amount of raw milk that any farmer can sell per day to a level that would make it uneconomic for most farmers to supply raw milk to customers – even assuming that every household who wanted raw milk had a family member who had enough time and money to drive out to a farm on a regular basis to collect the milk.
MAF has released a discussion document and are calling for public submissions. The cut off date for submissions is December 5, 2011.
Please visit www.milk.org.nz where you will find a link to the discussion document and a guide to making a submission.
The only hope to keep raw milk as an option for the vast majority of New Zealanders who live in urban areas is for a massive public response to the call for submissions, so please act now.
Thank you.
Best wishes,
Katherine Smith

  1. It’s always the same thing. Whether it’s milk or natural resources there will always be particular groups with friends in high places for which the most important goal is to increase their profit. It’s sad that this phenomenon has now become the common feature of organic markets as well. I am a great fan of local farmers and their products which I think can under no circumstances be replaced by genetically modified products. What I like in particular is bio meat. It has recently been on the rise but it still needs a lot of promotion. I was lucky to find some great places such as The Healthy Butcher, Fresh From the Farm, Cumbrae’s in Toronto where you can get healthy and high-quality meat which not only eases your conscience as far as the treatment of animals is concerned but it also has a much more positive impact on your health and lifestyle. But when I read about the actions that the government together with other authorities are about to take I get the impression that the future of local farmers and organic food is under serious threat and we should all do something about it.

  5. The Death of Dietitians…The Resurrection of a French Chef!
Post date: Wednesday, February 29th 2012 at 6:30 pm by Sayer Ji

“First need in the reform of hospital management? That’s easy! The death of all dietitians, and the resurrection of a French chef.” ~ Martin H Fischer quotes

Modern science is beginning to vindicate the ancient wisdom of our palates … Butter, for instance, and without which — some argue — French cuisine would not be possible, actually contains a saturated fat (the dietetic equivalent of a four letter word!), with a trans- fatty acid configuration, that — get this! — lowers blood cholesterol levels, triglycerides and exhibits heart-protective properties.

Known as vaccenic acid, this naturally occuring trans-fatty acid is found in the fat of ruminants, e.g. goats, cows, deer, and is also found in human milk. It is converted into rumenic acid, a type of conjugated linoleic acid, which is known to have a broad range of potential health benefits.

Butter, after all, contains fat … rich, warm, satisfying and yummy fat. Fat, having been exorcised from the American diet for so long in favor of simple and complex carbohydrates, has been an essential nutrient (and a key constituent of all the tissues in our body) that many of us have been told we must go without, lest we die of clogged arteries. Instead, we are dying of clogged arteries from the carbohydrate heavy, oxidized unsaturated fatty acid-rich diet that was supposed to be much healthier for us. An ounce of fat is equal to a pound of carbohydrate, when it comes to staving off primal cravings for authentic nourishment.

Butter, of course, must be consumed organically. All milk accumulates toxins within the environment. The fat happens to be the place where fat-soluble poisons are found in higher concentrations, e.g. pesticides, mineral oil, etc. as well as hormone residues. Also, it must be consumed moderately and in proper balance with other foods. Butter’s apotheosis, if you will, occurs when used with herbs or vegetables that contain a wealth of fat-soluble phytocompounds and nutrients. Turmeric, for instance, when cooked in clarified butter (ghee), is capable of concentrating out fat-soluble compounds, like tumerones, which the herb consumed raw will not liberate. Stir-frying dark greens, for instance, liberates fat-soluble vitamins normally locked rigidly within the plant.

If you’re still not convinced that saturated fats can be our friends, check out the jaw-dropping, but not heart-stopping hard-science on the therapeutic value of coconut oil in at least two dozen health conditions here.
