Author and conservationist, Graeme Sturgeon, was assaulted, his clothing ripped, his face left bloodied, and his car doorhandle broken, by DoC employees on 17 October 2017.
“…the driver’s door was opened, he was hauled out, and punched in the face by a DOC contractor, Mr X, without warning or explanation.”

Yes the Kea Martin… nearly extinct. And wasn’t aware R Williams that Graeme Sturgeon was a veteran. Would explain his zeal for no 1080. Graeme by the way has been charged with assault now … he assaulted no one. They locked him up for half an hour while arranging his bail. I think they are making an example of him.
Pam, I made the trip over to Greymouth a couple of weekends ago: Arthur’s Pass usually swarming with those inquisitive and friendly Kea, and saw ONE briefly. Sad that the very birds DOC claims to be protecting is almost gone. Greed and short term profit over the future of the planet. Sad.

No worries Pam. Ironically there was a news item on the TV this evening about the “NZ Bird of the Year” the Kea. Much mention was made about the bird’s declining population, but no mention of 1080 poison being a factor.
How many more of our precious native species will become endangered before we wake up?
