New Lunar Mysteries: What’s Going on Inside the Moon?

Is the Moon tectonically active, or is something else causing cracks to appear on the Lunar surface?

Researchers from Brown’s University, studying current and archival NASA images, have discovered ridges topped with freshly exposed boulders that indicate our Moon is still “alive”.

What’s causing these ridges and exposed rock? It seems to be confirmation of observations made over the years by astronomers that features seem to mysteriously come and go on our moon, as if someone were mining or excavating on a titanic scale!

“Exposed blocks on the surface have a relatively short lifetime because the regolith buildup is happening constantly, So when we see them, there needs to be some explanation for how and why they were exposed in certain locations.”

Peter Schultz, professor in Brown University’s Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences

Intriguingly, the Brown’s U. team found that these exposed blocks correlate almost perfectly with ancient ridges mapped by NASA’s GRAIL mission in 2014, suggesting activity ongoing for a very long time and continuing to this day.

“That makes us think that what we’re seeing is an ongoing process driven by things happening in the Moon’s interior.”

Peter Schulz

The researchers theorize that the moon is still reacting to a gigantic impact billions of years ago:  “Giant impacts have long lasting effects. The Moon has a long memory.  What we’re seeing on the surface today is testimony to its long memory and secrets it still holds.”

The secrets it still holds? Yes, the moon is full of secrets and mysteries. Mysterious voids and caverns big enough to contain a city, strange tracks that run up hills and down craters, artificial looking features and countless questions about how Earth acquired such a huge satellite comparative to its own size, how it is so perfectly placed to cover the sun in an eclipse, why it always shows the same face to us…are these things coincidence or design?

Lunar cavern large enough to hide a city: Does this look artificial? What lurks within?

This new mystery just adds another to add to the already substantial list. Whatever one may conclude or believe, it’s clear our moon is far from dead!

  1. If the Electric Universe crowd are correct the crater subsurface is probably fused together and has dropped as a lump; a result of natural forces. The moons orbit isn’t circular causing all sorts of forces.

    1. Yes I recall similar explanations given by the Electric Universe proponents for the sinkhole phenomenon a few years ago.
