How quickly the tide has turned!

Mere days ago Ardern and her “weekly COVID Briefing” sidekick Bloomfield were the darlings of the Mainstream Media, now the Press has turned on them: Bloomfield taking the Beehive Back Door to avoid the questions.
After the totalitarian lockdowns we all endured (and what good boys and girls we all were!) and many days with no cases of active COVID cases, it’s all coming unravelled and the truth coming out.
This author has complained often enough that the government’s approach to Lockdown has, all along, been a case of closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. Since the very start of the pandemic the border control has been woefully inadequate: No testing, self-isolation based on trust, and too many special exemptions based on dollars or feelings over common sense and logic.

As a result, we’ve had the news of two active cases with potential contacts in the hundreds, completely overwhelming the heavily hyped Contact Tracing system. Once again, the government reacts “after the horse has bolted”. No more compassionate exemptions, says Ardern. And what’s more we’ll put the Army at the borders.

But this incident seems to have opened the floodgates for a deluge of complaints about the general casualness of the aforementioned inadequate policing of border entries. People coming to forward to share their experiences of waltzing through the gates and mingling at “isolation” hotels with new arrivals and those about to enter the population at large. Groups supposedly part way through the isolation process going AWOL to attend funerals, and other stories breaking that contribute to a picture of NZ’s COVID management very different from the fairy-tale New-Jacindaland success story that’s been “wowing” the world.

To make matters worse, it seems the confident claims of Ashley Bloomfield that health workers had a plentiful supply of PPE has evaporated; Voices of dissent speak of desperate shortages, and as mentioned, Bloomfield is ducking out the rear entrance and dodging the questions.
What a mess.
Looks like an election victory for Ardern might not be such a slam-dunk after all. Things are getting interesting on the political scene again!
