London-based artist Andrew Thorpe recently installed an “artwork” in Takaka that read “white silence is compliance” in bold black and white font. The residents rubbed out the word “white.” Good on them. What a hateful thing to paint.

And I wouldn’t call that “art.” The song below is art.
“It’s too bad that racists like [Thorpe, the artist] have infected Golden Bay with their violent ideology,” one commenter wrote on the Golden Bay Community Noticeboard.
Other commenters expressed their concern that the movement was primarily Black American and had nothing to do with New Zealand, or Golden Bay.
Thorpe, a graphic designer and illustrator who recently moved to the area, said it was clear some people hadn’t “fully grasped” racism yet.
No, Andrew Thorpe is the one who hasn’t grasped what racism is, because he can’t see it in himself. He’s yet another cultural marxist who obviously feels he’s got the right to tell the people of Takaka what to do. Why? What hubris. I hope they tell him where to go.
Dictating to people how they should think, write and speak is a very dangerous trend, warned by in the book 1984, and more akin to communist countries.
Do I see the issue in terms of black and white? I do. Taking us back to a happier time, this song was number 1 in New Zealand in 1972.
The ink is black, the page is white
Together we learn to read and write
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight
And now a child can understand
That this is the law of all the land, all the land
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
Together they grow to see the light, to see the light
And now at last we plainly see
We’ll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
Together they grow to see the light, to see the light
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight
The world is black, the world is white
It turns by day and then by night
A child is black, a child is white
Together they grow to see the light, to see the light
Martin comments: Great song choice Jo. “together we stand divided we fall” I say. And that’s what the agenda is all about. Divide and conquer. The ultimate aim? To eradicate all racial differences and create a new generic “global race”. We resist it by NOT fighting about our differences but by celebrating them! Variety is the spice of life.
