Prime Minister Helen Clark spent an hour with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing St on Tuesday morning.

She says they held wide-ranging discussions on topics including Afghanistan, Myanmar, and the use of Fijian troops in international peacekeeping missions.

However, the main focus was a joint approach on climate change and Clark says she briefed Brown on last month’s APEC discussions on the issue.

Clark says Brown is looking to position London as the centre of carbon trading for the future. She says the issue will be on the agenda for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting later in the year.

Brown is in the middle of speculation he is about to call a snap election. He did not front for New Zealand media after the hour-long talks.

According to 6pm TV1 news, her next stop is the head of the EU.
