“I know of absolutely no, and I mean absolutely no means of prevention that would save so many lives as simply to stop fluoridation, or don’t start it where it is otherwise going to be started. There you might save 30,000 or 40,000 or 50,000 lives a year, cancer lives. That is an awful lot of lives a year.” Dr. Dean Burk Ph.D. (34 years at the National Cancer Institute). The previous Minister of Health was very keen to encourage all NZers to accept fluoride in their drinking water, ignoring a veritable mountain of peer-reviewed research papers indicating that it was a systemic poison. The new MoH has an opportunity to turn around this insane “health” policy. Will he? Will he at least look at the evidence?

Water fluoridation is a peculiarly American phenomenon. It started at a time when Asbestos lined our pipes, lead was added to gasoline, PCBs filled our transformers and DDT was deemed so “safe and effective” that officials felt no qualms spraying kids in school classrooms and seated at picnic tables. One by one all these chemicals have been banned, but fluoridation remains untouched. Read more

“Fluoride is a medication” as defined by New Zealand’s own National Ethics Advisory Committee, & the International Convention of Bioethics.
Artificial fluoridation of public water supplies is, to say the least, an extremely controversial topic.
Fluoride is the only chemical added to the water supply with the sole intent of changing your bodily function, ie. medicating you. Read more

- As folks age, many start to experience an insomnia for which medical science, apart from its plethora of toxic or additive Pharmaceuticals, offers suspect bupkis. Unfortunately, I don’t have a really good natural remedy, either… even though there are many available, they never did much for me. Still, toward the end of this piece I’ll give you the short story on SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), Melatonin-Light Discipline, etc. & share some things you can do which might help. Again, sadly, I think these things are of likely peripheral significance & likely to help only a few.

Fluoride, added to the water supply of many cities and counties and sold by WalMart in its nursery water, has a tendency to accumulate not only in developing teeth causing discoloration, and in bones making them brittle. The mineral is associated with cancer and it also accumulates in the pineal gland, an important hormone control center, where it wreaks considerable havoc. Paul Connett of Fluoride Action Network comments on Jennifer Luke’s research which was part of her PhD thesis and had just been published in Caries Research under the title: Fluoride Deposition in the Aged Human Pineal Gland.

For those of you who lack the will to find out more information about the fluoride added to your food, toothpaste and water by authorities, here you are:
The following letter was received by the Lee Foundation for Nutritional Research, Milwaukee Wisconsin, on 2 October 1954, from Mr. Charles Perkins, a chemist:
“I have your letter of September 29 asking for further documentation regarding a statement made in my book, The Truth About Water Fluoridation, to the effect that the idea of water fluoridation was brought to England from Russia by the Russian Communist Kreminoff. “In the 1930`s, Hitler and the German Nazi`s envisioned a world to be dominated and controlled by a Nazi philosophy of pan-Germanism. The German chemists worked out a very ingenious and far-reaching plan of mass-control which was submitted to and adopted by the German General Staff. This plan was to control the population in any given area through mass medication of drinking water supplies. By this method they could control the population in whole areas, reduce population by water medication that would produce sterility in women, and so on. In this scheme of mass-control, sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place. …

BOTTLED water should be fluoridated to the same concentrations as public drinking water in order to reduce tooth decay, according to a revised policy by Australia’s top dental body.
The Australian Dental Association has reinforced its existing stance in favour of fluoridation, saying there is now “clear solid scientific evidence” that the practice is effective at protecting teeth.
“The claims of those opposing fluoridation are based on outdated information and selective studies that support their case,” the ADA said. “However, no convincing or credible scientific evidence exists that fluoride, when supplied at the optimum level (one part per million) in drinking water, causes any adverse health effects.”

The practice of fluoridating our city water supply deserves to be reconsidered by our City Council whose members are elected to make decisions which benefit our community. This will be a most controversial issue, and so must involve democratic processes and appropriate expertise which enable us all to both understand and decide appropriately on the issue.
My reading makes it difficult for me to be convinced that fluoridation is in our best interests. Undoubtedly, the fact that my father, who was a well respected chemist, was a staunch opponent has prejudiced my thinking. But the evidence I am encountering leaves me deeply troubled and needing to suggest that we suspend the practice of fluoridation until the volumes of research have been assessed by competent and independent experts.
I sincerely hope that the conclusions I am forming about fluoride are wrong and that we are not harming generations of people. The debate is crucial to all of us.
