Controversial drugs Gardasil and Cervarix will do little to reduce cervical cancer rates and even though they?re being recommended for girls as young as nine, there have been no efficacy trials in children under the age of 15. Dr Diane Harper is a lead US researcher in the development of two human papilloma virus vaccines. Speaking to the 4th International Public Conference on Vaccination which took place in Reston, Virginia, US, between the 2nd and 4th October 2009, Harper, director of the Gynecologic Cancer Prevention Research Group at the University of Missouri, explained that seventy percent of all HPV infections resolve themselves without treatment within a year. Within two years, the number climbs to ninety percent. Of the remaining ten percent of HPV infections, only half will develop into cervical cancer. This leaves little need for the vaccine at all. Diane Harper stated that the incidence of cervical cancer in the US is already so low that ?even if we get the vaccine and continue PAP (cervical cytology) screening, we will not lower the rate of cervical cancer in the US.? There will be no decrease in cervical cancer until at least seventy percent of the population is vaccinated, and even then, the decrease will be minimal. Healthcare professionals in the audience left the conference convinced the HPV vaccines should not be received. The US Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System database shows more than 1,637 adverse events associated with the vaccine since it was introduced in the US in June 2006. This figure is just for America and does not include UK adverse reactions. Of these, there were 371 serious adverse reactions and 3 deaths. In one report, a girl died just three hours after getting a Gardasil vaccine when she developed a blood clot. Two other girls, aged twelve and nineteen, also died after vaccination when they developed blood clotting and heart problems. Other serious reports connect the HPV vaccines with paralysis, Bell’s Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome and seizures. In one study, of forty two pregnant women who were vaccinated, eighteen of them developed complications, mainly miscarriages, and one gave birth to a deformed baby. During the clinical trials of the HPV vaccine, five women who got pregnant within thirty days of having the vaccine, gave birth to children with abnormalities. In the UK, two girls died within hours of having the jab. The question is posed: What if a teenager or young woman has the vaccine and then gets pregnant? Could this be a medical timebomb waiting to happen, rather like Thalidomide in the 1950s and 60s?
