Australia, US, Indonesia, France and 10 other nations are flexing their military might in war games off Hawaii as part of the world’s largest international maritime exercise.
The Rim of Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC), which began on Wednesday and continues until August 1, is designed to build unity among allies and deter rogue nations like North Korea from acting militarily.
“It does send a little bit of a message of deterrence because as nations we can come together and operate together quickly and have increased capability and capacity to do things and respond to events,” Commander Greg Hicks of the US Navy’s Third Fleet told AAP.
