China’s Alibaba and Baidu have dropped Israel’s official name from their digital maps available online. The move comes as Chinese internet is getting inundated with antisemitism following Israel-Hamas war. Watch this video for more.

And another view on the same topic:
Users in China have noticed that the name ‘Israel’ does not appear on online digital maps provided by the likes of Baidu and Alibaba, The Wall Street Journal reported. Chinese internet users have pointed to this development since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out in early October. The report says that while Baidu’s Chinese language online maps demarcate the internationally recognised borders of Israel, they don’t clearly identify the country by name. It is not yet clear when the omission exactly came about.

As censorship heats up and free thought becomes an increasingly rare commodity, we appeal to our readers to support our efforts to reach people with information now being censored elsewhere. In the last few years, Uncensored has itself been censored, removed from the shelves of two of our biggest NZ retailers – Countdown Supermarkets and Whitcoulls Bookstores – accounting for 74% of our total NZ sales.
