While the US has its focus on Ukraine and the Middle East, China performs a blockade drill in potential WW3 flashpoint Taiwan.
South China Morning Post reports:
“The People’s Liberation Army announced on Monday evening that it had wrapped up its blockade drills around Taiwan, saying it had “fully tested the integrated joint operation capabilities” of its troops.
The Joint Sword-2024B exercises started at around dawn and included the aircraft carrier Liaoning sailing to the strategic east of the island.
The manoeuvres, which included land and sea strikes, were conducted to the north, south and east of Taiwan and in the Taiwan Strait, with the goal of testing the PLA’s joint operation abilities, according to PLA Eastern Theatre Command spokesman Senior Captain Li Xi.…
“…The drill could turn to war at any time, Yuyuan Tantian, a CCTV-run social media account, quoted Fu Zhengnan, a commentator with the PLA’s Academy of Military Sciences, as saying.
Zhang Chi, a professor with the PLA National Defence University, said the drills were meant to show that Beijing could block Taiwan’s energy imports and have a major impact on the island’s economy and society.
He added that Taiwan was heavily reliant on imported energy, especially liquified natural gas, and that the ports targeted in the exercise were the main channels of these imports.“
