As The Freedoms And Rights Coalition heads to Wellington, a counter-protest is planning to meet them. But who or what are the counter-protestors countering?
According to Newshub: “The counter-protest, titled ‘Love Community: Hate Fascism’, will be led by the Pōneke Anti-Fascist Coalition. It has more than 600 people interested and 247 people signalling they’re attending on the Facebook event. ” In other words, this is essentially Antifa. Which is somewhat concerning given their past record. But let’s hear what they claim to be about before we judge too unkindly.
247 confirmed attendees? Considering the number of protestors that often turn up to FARC events, that’s significantly less than the number they’ll be protesting against. typically though, the MSM is downplaying FARC numbers saying “about a thousand”. This author vividly recalls ten thousand and more regularly attending the Christchurch marches last year and earlier this year. And very successfully combatting fascism by being strongly instrumental in pressuring the government to drop the vaccine mandates.
But what exactly are the Poneke Anti Fascist Coalition counter-protesting?
Apparently they are peaceful protestors. great. that’s FARC’s mantra too!
They say they “Love community and hate fascism’. Wonderful. sounds very much up the FARC’s alley.
Organiser Laura Drew said in a statement the counter-protest is a peaceful and non-confrontational rally aimed at standing up against “hateful rhetoric” in the capital. Excellent!
So err, who are they counter-protesting again?
“The same hate groups we saw occupying and burning Parliament earlier this year.”
Burning Parliament? I saw some masked cowards set fire to wood pallets, none of whom were associated with any of the organised protest groups at Parliament in March.
“We saw how they disrespected everyone from mana whenua to school children. We don’t want a repeat of any of it.”
Ahhh…they protesting against “they”. “them”.
Who is “they”? certainly not FARC members. I heard allegations of disrespect from a few rotten eggs, but no-one named or identified to my knowledge.
They are also opposed to the rise of ” “violent speech in the far right”. By which I assume they are inferring that FARC represent this illusory “Far right”.
And there we have it: These ANTIFA protestors are countering a Straw Man.
