Kingmaker Puts NZ In The Red

Yes, As all kiwis will now well and truly know, NZ First leader Winston ” Kingmaker ” Peters, after employing his well practised flair for showmanship by keeping the media in suspense for days while has a nice little chat and a cuppa with Bill English (National/Democratic Independent Union) and Jacinda Ardern (Labour/Progressive Alliance), has crowned The Red Queen. Not really a surprise in hindsight considering the spectacular last minute switch of Labour leader and subsequent media frenzy over charismatic Fabian Ardern.

To be honest, I’m impressed with the show that the NWO has put on for us. The most entertaining elections puppet-show we’ve had in New Zealand politics for a long time, and a fitting last performance for Winston Peters, who’s been loving every minute of it.

It will be very interesting to see what unfolds!

Scientists Discover the Perfect Place For a Lunar Colony….Or Is It Already Occupied?

I have long been intrigued by theories about the nature and origins of our mysterious moon. Especially the idea that the Moon may be hollow or at least riddled with huge caverns. This idea, for which reasonable circumstantial evidence already existed, has now received more concrete evidence from Japanese lunar research. The diagram gives one some idea of the staggering scale of these tunnels. One wonders what might be hidden within? Back in the 1970’s, author George H. Leonard believed that alien miners with equipment of gargantuan size had been busy on “our” moon.

What do you think: Are these natural features or evidence that “Someone else is on our Moon”?

For years, scientists have wondered if dark, crater-like features on the lunar surface might be entrances to giant caverns carved long ago by flowing lava. Researchers from Japan and the United States have uncovered new evidence to prove that these features actually exist — which is good news for future lunar colonists looking for a convenient and safe place to live.

New research published in Geophysical Research Letters shows that several pits located near the Marius Hill region of the Moon are large open lava tubes and that these ancient caverns have the potential to offer, in the words of the researchers, a “pristine environment to conduct scientific examination of the Moon’s composition and potentially serve as secure shelters for humans and instruments”.

The team, which included scientists from NASA and Japan’s space agency, JAXA, combined radar and gravity data to make the finding.
No doubt, these caverns would be perfect for aspiring lunar colonists. Inside these large holes, humans would be protected from the Sun’s dangerous rays, and other hazards. The Moon has no atmosphere to speak of, so these “instant” shelters would be extremely advantageous.

lunar moon tunnels

For years, scientists have suspected that these lunar features were lava tubes — naturally occurring channels that form when lava turns into a hard crust. Millions of years ago, when the Moon experienced volcanic activity, flowing lava carved the surface, and when these channels drained, they oftentimes left a hollow void behind. Previous research showed that these caverns, should they exist, would be stable enough for subterranean lunar bases.
JAXA scientists analysed radar data from the SELENE spacecraft, which was designed to study the origins of the Moon and its geological history. As this new study shows, this instrument is also good for detecting lunar lava tubes, which it does by bouncing radar off the lunar surface. By peppering the entrances to these suspected caverns with radar bursts, the scientists were able to detect a distinctive echo pattern, where a decrease in echo power was followed by a second large echo peak.
This pattern was the smoking gun, signifying the presence of a floor and a ceiling of a lava tube. Because the scientists found several similar echo patterns at locations nearby, there may be more than one lava tube.
And it just so happens that this area corresponds to locations where NASA, through its GRAIL mission, was able to identify mass deficits — that is, locations on the lunar surface where mass appears to be reduced or missing, which GRAIL detects as slightly less gravity.

Moon Lunar Tunnels

By combining the SELENE and GRAIL data, the team was able to not just prove the presence of a lava hole, but also the depth and height of the cavity. And it’s big — extending for several kilometers in length, and at least one kilometer in height and width.
Quite suddenly, the Moon seems like a more welcoming place. It’s time for us to go back.

“A more welcoming place”…? Sounds like a good title for sci-fi horror movie to me!

Taking The Pulpit: The Catholic Church and Priestly Celibacy

“Suffer little children”, says Jesus. And while that is certainly not what he intended (and I’ve lost count of the number of times the words have been quoted out of context), countless children have indeed suffered as a result of the Catholic Church’s ridiculous rule of priestly celibacy. We all know about the paedophiles who have been sheltered behind their priestly robes and the suffering of their victims. But many cases are less obvious. Like children who never knew their father because he is, well a “Father”.

Not all clergy should be tarred with the same brush. Many  are healthy heterosexual males with the same sex drives as the rest of us, and therein lies a big problem: Celibacy and denial. It’s human nature that the more one is denied something, the more one craves it, especially something as primal and biologically hardwired as sex. God, according to The Bible, created man and woman, and therefore presumably gave them the urge to procreate? I have long thought that the Catholic Church’s insistence on priestly celibacy to be, rather ironically, a denial of God’s will and intent. “Ah,” you might retort, “but surely it was the cunning serpent that led Eve into temptation and “sin”? And therein lies the root problem. The continued (and alarming) prevalence of literal interpretation of religious texts. The Bible is not, and never was, intended to be a factually accurate historical document. It’s truths are represented through allegory and parable, and to interpret the texts in a shallow and literal manner leads down a dangerous path to extremism and irrationality.

…oh, and here’s the news item that inspired my little sermon:

The secret children of a Catholic priest in New Zealand are about to reveal their identity to their local bishop, and a New Zealander who personally briefed the Pope on the topic says the Vatican has recognised the right to know one’s parents

Bread and wine are used to celebrate the Eucharist during Roman Catholic masses. Here, a priest holds a wedding ceremony mass.

The adult siblings are among thousands internationally who have contacted the Coping International website, which offers support to the children of clergy.

The site’s founder Vincent Doyle – an Irish man who himself is the son of a priest – said he expected many more New Zealanders who are priests’ children, or their mothers, to come forward as they gained courage to speak up.

“We’ve been contacted from a number of people in New Zealand – one family where there’s more than one child to the same priest, to the same woman – but they’re going to be making moves in the coming future to the respective diocese and they’ll be contacting the bishop concerned.”

The family had contacted his website in the last three months, and granted him permission to speak a little about their situation, such as how many children there were and where they had grown up.

Vincent Doyle meets Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza, the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the United Nations, in mid-October to talk about the children of clergy.

They were among 13,500 people worldwide who had been in touch with Mr Doyle since he started the website in late 2014.

His site gained international prominence in August this year when featured in a new series by the Boston Globe‘s Spotlight unit, which is famous for exposing clerical sex abuse of children.

The response to the website has forced the Vatican to acknowledge the issue, and last month it began working on guidelines for how to respond.

“The expectation would be that the [priest] should go and be a father to his child,” said Bill Kilgallon, an Aucklander who personally briefed the Pope last month on the issue as part of the Pontifical Commission to help protect children.

Mr Kilgallon said the Catholic Church had no idea yet how many children have been conceived by priests.

The search phrase “I am pregnant and the father is a Catholic priest” featured in about 1500 of 96,000 hits on Coping International’s website, which its founder pointed out would be mostly from English speakers with Internet access.

“How many don’t fall into that category?” Mr Doyle said.

Remember the Ozone Hole? Used to be the hot environmental topic before Al Gore and the Church Of Global Warming. In fact it’s been so long since I heard anything about the Ozone Layer that I did a double-take when I saw this item.

Being an unrepentant tin-hatter I have to link an agenda to this. So I wonder, could this somehow relate to HAARP? The infamous array at Alaska has at times been promoted as a potential saviour of the planet by rejuvenating the Ozone Layer (while others point out that HAARP could equally be responsible for it’s destruction). Since HAARP is now supposedly casting aside it’s aura of secrecy and putting on a big PR show, perhaps an engineered “OMG The Ozone Hole Is Back! Only HAARP can save us!” plot is in the making?

A NEW THREAT TO THE OZONE LAYER: High above Earth, more than 20 miles above sea level, a diaphanous layer of ozone surrounds our planet, absorbing energetic ultraviolet rays from the sun. It is, essentially, sunscreen for planet Earth. Without the ozone layer, we would be bathed in dangerous radiation on a daily basis.

For more than 30 years, the Montreal Protocol has regulated ozone-destroying chemicals, allowing Earth’s ozone holes to heal and shrink. But there’s trouble on the horizon. An international team of researchers led by David Oram of the University of East Anglia has found an unexpected, growing danger to the ozone layer from substances not regulated by the treaty.

Above: The Antarctic ozone hole in Sept. 2016. [more]

The danger comes from a class of chemicals known as “chlorocarbons.” Dichloromethane is an example. It is used in paint stripping, agricultural fumigation, and the production of pharmaceuticals. Over the past decade dichloromethane became approximately 60% more abundant. “This was a major surprise to the scientific community and we were keen to discover the cause of this sudden increase,” says Oram.

Developing economies in East Asia appear to be the source. “Our estimates suggest that China may be responsible for around 50-60% of current global emissions [of dichloromethane], with other Asian countries, including India, likely to be significant emitters as well,” says Oram.

Dichloromethane and similar chemicals were not regulated by the Montreal protocol because they were thought to be too short-lived to reach the ozone layer. However, East Asia has a special pattern of circulation that can push these chemicals skyward, very rapidly.  It’s a two-step process: Cold-air surges in East Asia quickly carry industrial pollution into the tropics. “It is here that air is most likely to be uplifted into the stratosphere (where ozone is located),” says co-author Matt Ashfold of the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

Christchurch Earthquake Red Zone: Plans To Build Housing On Shaky Ground!

“For properties in the flat land residential red zone areas, being zoned red means that the land has been so badly damaged by the earthquakes it is unlikely that it can be rebuilt on for a prolonged period.”
Red Zone information | Cera [production]

Got that guys? Here’s more from the Cera (Canterbury earthquake recovery authority) site:

“Key points to note for the flat land residential red zone areas:

It is not feasible to rebuild on this land at the present time
Wide scale land remediation would take a considerable period of time, the social dislocation of such massive works would see homeowners out of their homes for at least three years, and in some cases more than five years
In some areas remediation would require up to three metres of compacted fill to bring the land up to compliant height, along with many kilometres of perimeter treatment
In addition, a complete replacement of essential infrastructure like sewer, water, electricity and roading would be required
Full land repair in these areas may mean that every house would need to be removed, regardless of its degree of present building damage
Even if full land repair was viable, the resulting ongoing social dislocation would have major impacts on schooling, transport and employment for whole communities. “

Red Zone land

For those who don’t know, I live right on the edge of the Christchurch post-quake “Red Zone”, which has mostly reverted to the swamp that existed there before humans built homes on it. After the earthquake of 2011 the home owners in the Red Zone were offered money in exchange for their land, (the speed with which the offer was presented fuels speculation about foreknowledge of the impending quake) and we all were told that this land (now “Crown Owned”) was unsuitable for residential building and would be used for parks, recreation and reservation, in accordance with consultation of the people of Christchurch.

Now, it seems that our government is eyeing up this boggy swampland for housing, in spite of previous claims to the contrary.

All I can say is; Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We had a powerful earthquake in 2010 and were assured it was a “once in 16,000 year event”: Everyone breathed a sigh of relief that no one got hurt and carried on with life. A few months later we had another big quake, followed by many thousands of large aftershocks. This time there were hundreds of casualties and injuries.

And the government wants to build more houses on this quake-ravaged land?

A case of greed over common sense?

Concerns raised over Chch red zone plans

Proposals to build new homes in an area of Christchurch’s quake-hit red zone isn’t fair to its old occupants, a former resident says.
On Friday the Crown-led agency, Regenerate Christchurch, released ten options for the Avon-Otakaro red zone]. The 602 hectare red zone used to house 9000 people before the Christchurch earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.
Almost every house is now gone.
The 10 options on the table for the area include scenarios such as establishing a lake, a golf course, and cycle trails.
Half of the options include building houses.
David Miller’s family used to live in the red zone, and he said putting in new homes in the area was unfair to its former residents.

“You can hardly take people off the land and then later on, when you have gotten rid off those people, you can hardly go back on what you’ve proposed to do … it doesn’t make sense,” he said.
“It just doesn’t seem fair.”
The 10 options have come out of about 5000 ideas Regenerate Christchurch got from the community.
Ernest Tsao is still living in the red zone, as the government’s offer to buy his property was not enough to cover buying a house elsewhere.
Mr Tsao said he was not against new developments, but he was worried about how he and others may be affected.
“My interests are to preserve my home and my house,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter what [Regenerate Christchurch] decide to in the future, as long as they respect the private property rights and the dignity of those who still live here, we have no problem with what they decide to do.”
The Avon-Otakaro Network is a local group lobbying for more green areas.
Spokesperson Evan Smith said he understood the opposition to rebuilding in the red zone but argued it gave the city an opportunity to test new ways of building houses.
“There’s not a need for housing in Christchurch per se, there is now enough land to meet demand, and probably future demand as well. But there is a need for affordable housing and housing that tests methodology to make them resilient,” he said.

Google Image Search Utility

Ever wanted to quickly identify the source of an article or image? Or determine if an image has been photoshopped, faked, or re-used for purposes of misinformation?

Google’s ‘Search by Image’ utility makes this task incredibly simple! Here’s how…

STEP 1)  SEARCH FOR IMAGES:  Type in your chosen subject as you normally would. From the results page, select “Images” from the Google menu.

image search

STEP 2)  OBTAIN URL OF IMAGE: Right-Click on the image for which you want additional information and then Click ‘Copy Image Location’.

STEP 3) PASTE URL INTO IMAGE SEARCH: Click the camera icon at the right side of the “Search” box.

(HINT: The images nearest the top are usually the “purest” or closest to the original source)

STEP 4)  GET THE IMAGE HISTORY:  Enter the Image URL (right-click then ‘Paste’)  into the search box to initiate image search.

That’s it… Every instance where this image has been used, with the oldest at the top. And as a bonus, Google also provides a selection of visually similar images for comparison. This is very useful for sniffing-out doctored images and fakes. So not only can you get to the source of an article this way, but you can see every other instance of the use (or mis-use!) of the image and article!

NZ Pipeline Leak Crisis: “You reap What You Sow”

by Martin Harris

New Zealand readers can’t help but have seen and heard the MSM reporting on the Marsden Refinery pipeline leak that has brought Auckland to it’s knees. “Thousands of flights cancelled” as jet fuel supply runs dry. “it could take up to 2 weeks to fix”, which means this will likely impact on the pumps shortly.

The mainstream news is, quite rightly, highlighting the weakness exposed in the single pipeline that supplies Auckland.

“A fuel pipeline that supplies Auckland has been damaged and it has already disrupted travel for thousands of people. Here’s what we know so far.

A 168 kilometre-long pipeline supplying jet fuel, petrol and diesel from the Marsden Point refinery in Northland to tanks in Wiri, Auckland, has been out of action since Thursday. It’s believed to have been hit by a digger being used to extract swamp kauri near Ruakaka.

Marsden Point refinery, Ruakaka, Whangarei. The pipeline that supplies fuel to Auckland from the refinery has been cut ...

Marsden Point refinery, Ruakaka, Whangarei. The pipeline that supplies fuel to Auckland from the refinery has been cut after being damaged by a digger.”

Two things they SHOULD be reporting on but aren’t:

Firstly, the ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT caused by spillage from the damaged pipeline,

and secondly, THE CAUSE of the damage. Initially, the reports said that an excavator extracting Swamp Kauri was responsible, but this aspect of the story quickly died before the spotlight could focus on this issue. (NOTE MENTION OF THIS IN THE ARTICLE ABOVE) this aspect has been subsequently downplayed.

These are both important environmental aspects of the story that are being swept under the carpet, and I think a clue as to “why?” lies with the Swamp Kauri issue. For those readers who may not know, Kauri is an endangered native tree. Thousands of them, however, lie buried and preserved in North Island swamps, apparently the victim of some ancient natural catastrophe. This is a finite resource and is supposedly managed and protected by law, to be used with care by local artisans to create uniquely New Zealand high-value products. Yet it is in fact being pillaged by overseas interests. The locals are being paid good money to do the hard work, so they keep their mouths shut and take the dollars with apparently little thought for the long term effects of corporate greed.

“Deputy Prime Minister Paula Bennett accepts that a mistake by a digger driver which caused widespread disruption to the nation’s aviation industry is “embarrassing”.

Energy Minister Judith Collins estimates the incident could cause “millions and millions of dollars” to the Auckland economy.

On Thursday, it was revealed that a digger once struck a key fuel pipe near Marsden Point, which by Sunday had caused a major leak that starved Auckland Airport of its main jet fuel supply.”

Well Collins should indeed be embarrassed, as SHE IS AT THE CENTRE OF THE SWAMP KAURI CONTROVERSY:

“In Parliament, Labour’s MP for Te Tai Tokerau, Kelvin Davis, asked the Government if ministers were “aware of reports that local wood manufacturers have been refused the opportunity to buy swamp kauri from Kauri Ruakaka mill, which was formerly called Oravida, and is allegedly involved in exporting raw swamp kauri?”

One of the directors of Oravida is National MP Judith Collins’ husband, David Wong-Tung.

Under further questioning in the House, Minister Nick Smith replied, “I thought the member (Kelvin Davis) was above getting involved in this kind of murk”.

Winston Peters then asked Dr Smith,: “Is he denying what is well known in Northland because people who are high up in Oravida are major donors to the National Party?”

Dr Smith replied that the law had been changed under Labour in 2004″

“Northland conservationists say the logs are being illegally exported under the guise of carvings and the Government is doing nothing about it.The Far North Protection Society said that, despite their complaints, its members were still seeing massive logs dug from ancient wetlands, heading south on trucks to be sold overseas.”

I guess my point here, is that the NZ Government is now seeing the repercussions of it’s own greed and putting personal business interests ahead of the long term welfare of the country and it’s natural resources:

You reap what you sow!
