Earth in chaos as wild weather strikes many locations almost simultaneously. Wildfires in Israel, wind blasts and flooding in China, flooding in New Zealand, Tornadoes in Oklahoma are just a few of the wild weather events making the news.
Oklahoma City set a record Wednesday with 11.94 inches (30.33 centimeters) of rain in April, surpassing the 1947 mark of 11.91 inches, according to Oklahoma State Climatologist Gary McManus.
Oklahoma was poised to break the 1942 record for statewide rainfall average of 8.32 inches (21.13 centimeters) for the month, McManus said.
By Wednesday night parts of more than a dozen highways were closed due to flooding and three shelters opened in Comanche County.
In the Dallas area, departures were grounded at Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for part of the day because of thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Hundreds of flights were canceled at DFW International Airport and dozens more at Love Field, according to FlightAware.
Pennsylvania storm knocks out power to hundreds of thousands
Tuesday night’s powerful storm knocked out power to more than 425,000 customers in Pennsylvania and 40,000 in Ohio, according to PowerOutage.us. Neighboring states also reported thousands of outages. About 300,000 Pennsylvania customers and nearly 19,000 in Ohio were without power late Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Pittsburgh-based Duquesne Light called the storm’s damage “unprecedented” for knocking out electricity, toppling trees and snapping power poles.
About 325,000 customers lost power and more than 150,000 were still in the dark in the evening, the company said on its website. Israel deploys troops to control massive wildfires near Jerusalem

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered troops to deploy on Wednesday to supportfirefightersbattling rapidly spreadingwildfiresnear Jerusalem, calling the situation a “national emergency”.
The country’s Magen David Adom (MDA) rescue agency reported hundreds of civilians were currently at risk from the fires.
Sixteen people were being treated for minor injuries from smoke inhalation, the MDA said, adding the alert level had been raised to the highest level.
Police closed the main Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway and evacuated residents along the route as brushfires broke out again in an area ravaged by blazes a week ago.

Meanwhile here in Christchurch, it’s been a bit wet. They used to call it winter, but now it’s a weather emergency. While there has indeed been flooding in rural areas and the Canterbury region, reports of New Brighton being underwater are somewhat exaggerated. I did see a puddle in my driveway but its gone now.
