Emergency closure at Yellowstone as a 100ft new fissure has been discovered. Recently a 100ft fissure has opened up at Yellowstone…
It’s a worrying thought but what would happen if Yellowstone erupted. It would start with a number of earthquakes. These would indicate that the magma is rising rapidly through the crust. After this a huge amount of ash and lava would shoot upward to heights of around 25 kilometers or 16 miles.
REALITY CHECK: While a 100 ft. crack in a cliff on it’s own is not necessarily cause for alarm, (The rangers seem to have been worried about rock collapse and risk to climbers) it still pays to be alert and informed: Inevitably the volcano will erupt some day!
