A change of venue with spectacular results. Thousands of protestors bring the busiest roads in Christchurch to a halt, and the motorists cheered us on!
While a hoped-for march through the inside of the mall was prevented by security and police, we complied peacefully. It made little difference. The most spectacular moment came at the return to Hagley Park. The procession paused at the major intersection between Riccarton Road, Deans Ave and Moorhouse Ave, and a thunderous chant of “No more mandates, freedom now” went up. A sight I thought I would never see in usually reticent and compliant NZ!
The vast majority of motorists and pedestrians were patient, tolerant and often very vocally supportive.
So much for your “team of five million”, Jacinda.
The best is yet to come. THIS THURSDAY 16 MARCH: WELLINGTON. 50 Thousand, I repeat, 50 thousand, expected to march on The Beehive! Get there if you can!
Thanks again to Freedoms and Rights organiser Derek Tait. You’re a legend mate.
The mainstream media can ignore all they want, we’re here to record history in the making and to be an active part of it. Martin
