Covid has a new variant and a new name. Pirola. Where do they dredge these names up from and what are they trying to tell us?

So. Naming a known subvariant of Omicron after a “dark asteroid” or a male reproductive organ. This one really has me scratching my head. Does it affect reproduction? Is it a warning of something approaching from the heavens? Is it a joke? I really don’t know…suggestions welcome…
