What Did the WEF’s Jacques Attali Really Say?

Fact checkers have had a field day with a quote attributed to WEF and French presidential advisor Jacques Attali. We’re going to dive into what the fact checkers say and what Attali actually said.

Who is Attali?

He’s a fairly controversial figure…

Review: The Rise and Fall of Attali on JSTOR

Jacques Attali – Global Commission for Post-Pandemic Policy (globalcommissionforpostpandemicpolicy.org)

The text of the controversial quote, allegedly from his book The future of Life, reads (in part):

“In the future, it will be a matter of finding a way to reduce the population. We will start with the elderly, because as soon as he exceeds 60-65 years of age, man lives longer than he produces and he costs society dearly...“We will find something or cause it, a pandemic that targets certain people, a real economic crisis or not, a virus that will affect the old or the fat, it doesn’t matter, The weak will succumb to it, the cowardly and stupid will believe in it and ask to be treated. We will have taken care to have planned the treatment, a treatment that will be the solution.”

Attali says “I never wrote that’.

“This text is totally made up. It is even further from the truth than the previous defamatory text. It is in no way close to the original text. It’s like saying that I would have written Mein Kampf,” says Attali

The fact checkers have scoured Attali’s book The Future of Life and correctly point out that no such quote appears in the book.

So what did he write?

But what he actually says, while not quite so direct and without any mention of a pandemic, isn’t that far off the mark.

Here’s the English translation of the actual text that references euthanasia:

“But as soon as you get over 60/65 years old, the man lives longer than he produces and he then costs society dearly,”

“Indeed, from the point of view of society, it is much better for the human machine to come to a sudden halt than to gradually deteriorate.”

“Hence I believe that in the very logic of industrial society, the objective will no longer be to extend life expectancy, but to ensure that, even within a given lifespan, man lives as well as possible, but in such a way that health expenditure will be reduced as much as possible in terms of costs for the community.”

“Euthanasia will be one of the essential instruments of our future societies in all cases. In a socialist logic, to begin with, the problem is as follows: the socialist logic is freedom, and fundamental freedom is suicide; As a result, the right to direct or indirect suicide is therefore an absolute value in this type of society. In a capitalist society, killing machines, prostheses that will make it possible to eliminate life when it is too unbearable or economically too costly, will emerge and will be common practice. So I think that euthanasia, whether it is a value of freedom or a commodity, will be one of the rules of the future society.”

So there you have it, make of the facts what you will. The quote may be false, but the actual text is equally disturbing. at least in this authors opinion!
