The observant reader will probably have noticed something missing from the UK’s “freedom list”. The COVID Vaccines. “freedom” always comes at a cost.
Faustian bargain, a pact whereby a person trades something of supreme moral or spiritual importance, such as personal values or the soul, for some worldly or material benefit, such as knowledge, power, or riches. The term refers to the legend of Faust (or Faustus, or Doctor Faustus), a character in German folklore and literature, who agrees to surrender his soul to an evil spirit (in some treatments, Mephistopheles, or Mephisto, a representative of Satan) after a certain period of time in exchange for otherwise unattainable knowledge and magical powers that give him access to all the world’s pleasures. A Faustian bargain is made with a power that the bargainer recognizes as evil or amoral. Faustian bargains are by their nature tragic or self-defeating for the person who makes them, because what is surrendered is ultimately far more valuable than what is obtained, whether or not the bargainer appreciates that fact.
In contrast, we have the New Testament story in which Christ undergoes a ritual or trial of temptation. The Tempter (acting the role of emissary of Satan, or of Satan personified), “took him up to a very high mountain and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence and he said to him, “All these I shall give to you if you will prostrate yourself and worship me.” Naturally, the generous offer was declined on the basis that God, not Satan, owns all of creation, therefore the offer is null and void.
Usually, when presented with an offer, especially from politicians (how many jests have there been over the years about the validity of political promises?). that screams “too good to be true” we ask, “so, what’s the catch”?
In this case, the COVID jab is the catch. There is a devil in every jab. Yes, potentially in the experimental contents of the jab itself (given emergency approval only and with significant deaths and adverse reactions),but also in what it represents. Those jabbed are likely to be on the treadmill and vaccine-dependent for the remainder of their lives.
There is no such thing as a return to “the way things were, the old normal”. What’s coming to the UK is the New Normal where the SARS CoV-2 virus is always lurking, always mutating, just like the yearly influenza. And like those who take a flu shot, the COVID jab will be regular thing, but always one step behind the virus itself.
I hear the ringing of cash registers.
Something of potential interest in Britain’s situation, though. Two thirds of the population jabbed, one third not. If that third portion remain unjabbed, and the COVID virus remains extant, who fare better? Faustian or Christian?
One wonders if the same freedoms will be allowed to the unvaxxed as to the vaxxed? Will this “freedom be conditional? We’ll see.
