The vaccine status of hospitalised patients is:
- Unvaccinated or not eligible: seven cases or 37 percent
- Partially immunised, meaning it’s less than seven days after second dose or has only received one dose: two cases or 10 percent
- Fully vaccinated for at least seven days before being reported as a case: nine cases or 47 percent
- Unknown: one case or 5 percent.
However in the coming weeks the cases will explode as the Omicron wave hits. This wave should (based on overseas trends) dissipate as rapidly as it grew. In NZ this spread will be aided by NZ’s Traffic Light system, where even “Red” allows fully vaxxed transmitters and asymptomatic carriers to spread the Omicron variant far and wide. As indicated by the UKHSA data below, your double-plus-boost vax and Magic Covid Pass won’t shield you from Omicron.
How Mild is Omicron? Rod Jackson’s Opinion Vs The Data.
Today on talkback radio, Epidemiologist Rod Jackson claimed that no one should call Omicron “mild”. He then used his academic credentials to express unfounded opinions such as “Delta is 20 times worse than the Flu” and therefore “Omicron is still many times worse than the Flu”. I call you a bullshit artist Rod. A fearmonger. We have had data from overseas, from good, solid sources, that indicate Omicron is no worse than the Common Cold for the vast majority.
This author has personally communicated with a number of individuals who have had Omicron and describe a scratchy throat, mild fever or headache, and lethargy for a few days. No big deal AND natural immunity thereafter.
Overseas sources both more highly credentialed and more common-sense than Rod Jackson give optimistic evaluations:

“I am very optimistic We’ll soon be in a situation where the virus is circulating, we will take care of people at risk, but for anybody else we accept they will catch it – and your average person will be fine”

Prof Eleanor Riley, immunologist, University of Edinburgh
“When Omicron has finished and moved through, immunity in the UK will be high, at least for a while.”
