Today I read a quote from David Seymour regarding the Wellington protestors and the closure of The Backbencher pub. The impression given contradicts everything I’ve heard about the behaviour of protestors.
“For the length of time that we’ve had this protest, I’ve been listening to people who are affected in the area, people like Alistair Boyce who runs the Backbencher who had to close his business due to abuse from protesters,”
David Seymour in parliament via Newshub
The quote appears in a Newshub article that, predictably, paints the protestors as abusive and threatening. Read it here: ACT leader David Seymour meets with Parliament protest ‘intermediary’, delivers conditions to be met for dialogue | Newshub
And yet, I was driving to work this morning and listening to Hawkesby’s morning Talkback show on the car radio. Boyce himself phoned in to set the record straight from “on the ground”. He sounded, bright and positive and described the protest leaders (whom he spoken with) as “peaceful”, and “focussed”, while expressing disgust at the bunglings of Trevor The Duck Mallard. He also mentioned that although his pub is closed he is conducting business at another site.
Amazing how Newshub can spin the situation into a very different picture from that which is reported straight from the horses mouth.
